"The students' enthusiasm generated by the variety of ways to show off
their artwork was overwhelming! It has been a boost in self esteem for many and
a source
of pride for many more. Kudos to you and Original Works for creating an avenue
for self expression for our students."

Original Works Art Institute
We established the Original Works Art Institute in 1993
as a way to support excellence in art instruction through
advocacy,
education and recognition.
Advocacy
As a member of the National Art Education Association (NAEA), The SHIP, and other
art affiliated organizations, we work to promote art education in the schools
on a nationwide basis. Annually we attend dozens of art educator conferences
and art in-services across the country, and have been named Vendor of The
Year by both the Virginia and Michigan Art Educators Associations.
Education
The Art Institute provides art teachers with assistance in art ideation and
lesson plan development, through the creation and distribution of art samples
and lesson plans. Several of our plans now meet the rigorous Discipline Based
Art Education (DBAE) Standards. Click the links below to view a few of our
lesson plan samples.

Recognition
As
part of our mandate to recognize outstanding children’s
artwork and artistic instruction, we have also developed
two levels of recognition
for program
participants. These recognition levels are the Original Works Prism
Award and Original Works Art Honor Roll.
Original
Works Prism Award
Based on an annual review of hundreds of thousands of pieces of children’s
artwork from our participating schools nationwide, we select two or three
schools each year as recipients of our Prism Award. The Prism Award represents
the pinnacle of achievement. It honors art teachers whose student art
exemplifies the highest level of accomplishment. Winners of the Prism
Award receive a beautifully cut crystal award etched with the winner’s
name and year, and a full color framed certificate showcasing a representative
piece of student artwork from that school. The principal and art supervisor
of the winning schools are also notified of this important distinction.
The Original Works Art Honor Roll
In addition to the prestigious Prism Award, we also recognize broader
overall excellence in art education through our Art Honor Roll. Each
year the top 3-5% of schools participating in our programs are selected
for inclusion on the Art Honor Roll. These schools are appointed to the
Art Honor Roll based on a defined criteria of artistic consistency and
creativity across all grade levels. Winners are recognized with a certificate
worthy of framing. The school principal and art supervisors of each school
are also notified of the achievement.
