Original Works Tricks & Treats for Halloween

“When witches go riding, and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween”

-Unknown

What a fun and creative time of year this is! It is perhaps one of the few times all year where artists and crafters can truly unleash their creative juices and come up with some amazing costumes and creations.  We hope that this season is finding you knee deep in some sort of creative endeavor.

Our production facility is also currently knee deep with different creations during the Halloween Fundraising season-YOURS!  We have some very busy folks working hard to fulfill all of your fundraising orders. Thank you all for choosing to work with Original Works this fall! You have created some fantastic art pieces through creative fundraising that recipients are sure to love!

If you are still looking for a festive way to add some holiday fun to your house, we have the perfect project for you: cheesecloth ghosts!

Materials:

  • Cheesecloth (this can be found in the baking aisle of your local grocery store)
  • Plastic cups (empty water bottles or toilet tissue rolls work great here too)
  • Balloons
  • Liquid starch
  •  Black marker
  • Scissors

Process:

  • Flip your cups upside down, and cut a small hole in the bottom.
  • Blow up a balloon (this is going to be the ghost head, so make it as big or small as you wish)
  • Stick knotted end of balloon through hole in the cup (just for stability)
  • Cut squares of cheesecloth, leaving it double layered for added strength to any given size (will depend on how large you want the ghost)
  • Dunk cheesecloth in the liquid starch and ring out. You don’t want the starch dripping off, but want to be sure that the cheesecloth is saturated.
  • Drape the cheesecloth over the balloons.
  •  Wait a few hours or overnight until the cheesecloth is completely dry and has hardened.
  •  Then, use a black marker and make eyes on your ghost.
  •  To remove the ghost shape, use a pin and pop the balloon and take the ghost off.

Once your ghost has been removed you can do whatever you wish with your new little friend!  I used thread and hung ours from a light fixture; however you can hang or stand them up where ever you wish.

We hope that you enjoyed this easy little Halloween craft. If you make some for your house or classroom, we would love to see them! Email us your photos at OWYHQ@Originalworks.com or post them on our Facebook page. Happy Halloween!
