Tips To Recruit Volunteers For Your Fundraiser!

Running a fundraiser can seem like an overwhelming task, but here at Original Works, we pride ourselves on having programs that are easy to administer and adaptable to your needs. Getting the right tips to recruit volunteers for your fundraiser is key…the more help and support you have, the more successful you will be.

Original Works has been helping schools, churches, synagogues, clubs, and organizations run creative, educational fundraising programs since 1989, so you could say we know a thing or two about what is going to make your fundraising program rock!

One key to your success is recruiting volunteers to help run your program. Based on our 27+ years in the fundraising industry, the following are some of the most effective ways we have found to successfully recruit volunteers.

Just Ask Studies and surveys show that face-to-face interaction is the best way to engage people. So don’t be afraid to ask your fellow teachers, parents, and friends.

Get SpecificCreate specific roles so that your volunteers know what they will be doing when they sign-up. Do you know a teacher or parent who is a great writer? Ask them to assist with the creation of an item for the school newsletter or morning announcement script. Have you noticed that one of your students’ parents is really outgoing and seems to know everyone? Ask them to lead the volunteer outreach program.

Keep A List Keep track of all the people you ask to become a volunteer. A “no” this year doesn’t mean it will be a “no” next year.

Say Thanks Most volunteers are not looking to be rewarded with expensive gifts or a gift card to their favorite restaurant or store. Recognizing their effort and saying thank you goes a long way.  For example, at the end of your program take a picture of all the volunteers and turn it into a thank you card. Volunteers love to see their generosity recognized – and they’ll be more likely to help again in the future.
